Your Tank Is Empty and Your Tires Are Flat
Dear reader,
As you tackle your challenges and prepare for your critical moments, here are three thoughts to consider this month.
TOMORROW
THE HOSTILITY BATTLE
Cynicism, animosity, hostility, and bitterness seem to have taken root in society. People are quick to criticize; they polarize, tribalize, oppose new ideas, and are eager to belittle others - often to elevate themselves. This culture of constant negativity thrives on people instinctively focusing on what is wrong rather than what is right. This culture sucks. It drains energy, harms relationships, destroys productivity and undermines new solutions.
The fascinating thing about trends, in general, is that there is always a counter-trend. The emerging counterforce we see to this current wave of hostility is something surprisingly simple: kindness.
While hard to measure, we are seeing more and more people who are choosing compassion over confrontation. This shift involves stepping back from arguments and focusing on meaningful connections. Letting go of the need to always be right. Pausing, thinking, and then adding a personal touch to a technical email that promotes connection. Asking good questions and genuinely caring about the answers.
The new wave of kindness draws inspiration from Eastern philosophies emphasizing calmness and acceptance. It also includes values rooted in fundamental politeness and respect for others.
While this new fragile trend is emerging, we should not kid ourselves and always be willing to have an honest conversation. The negative behaviors, the not showing up at your best at a meeting, and the lack of respect are symptoms. Everybody knows the “should dos”. People are not stupid. However, the reason that most people struggle with kindness is pretty simple. They are overwhelmed. They are exhausted. They are numb. They are in pain. They don’t know how to shift their mindset. They are distracted and don’t focus.
We are all humans; sometimes, our tank is empty, and our tires are flat. But we would argue most don’t have the tools, the strategies, a personal playbook, or even the appetite to be better and be more.
TODAY
DIAGNOSTIC IS BACK
When we started TIGNUM twenty years ago, we started out of the gate with a mobile diagnostic lab to test different physiological parameters that impact our client's sustainable performance. Our clients loved this cutting-edge approach, the insights, the mirror of where they stand, and the data, which was a great catalyst for their performance habit redesign.
When GDPR came around, few companies would allow us to run these tests anymore. Today, the game is changing again. More and more clients are asking for testing, and we have completely revamped our diagnostic approach with a new unit, new tests, and new reports.
If you are interested in our new approach - let us know.
YESTERDAY
YOUR CHOICE
In our book Sink, Float, or Swim, we wrote: Sustainable Human Performance doesn’t happen by luck or chance - it happens by choice.
The same goes for the kindness trend above. It is a choice from knowing to doing and understanding the benefits you will get.
Stay well, and even in your busiest times, remember that we can all BeMore.
Cheers,
Jogi
